This is for users with XNALara and 3DS Max 2012+ and want to render professional looking scenes. You must have a basic knowledge of 3ds although I think even someone fairly new can handle this.
Here is a blank starter scene to start with. Please, all I ask if you credit me for this tutorial. I did the heavy lifting for you, and if you want other people to enjoy it please just credit me. If not, I will find you. Please, no mature content of any kind using my tutorial. If I find it, I will remove the download. This is my prerogative, and you have been warned. Update: I warned you guys about no mature content. Sorry, if you want it now you have to note me. You must have a deviantart account. This isn't optional. While 90% of you followed my simple request, the 10% that didn't spoiled it.
Your final rendering if done correctly should look like this:
If you have questions let me know. I won't bite your head off, I want to help otherwise I wouldn't have made this. Note me with your deviation, after you finish this tutorial. I'd love to see it.

why i export the .obj from xnalara . and then i import it to 3ds max 2012, it come out white colour, and write missing XXXX.mtl . i had already put all the thing include the XXXX.mtl and XXXX.obj in the same folder. Still missing mtl... can help?
Make sure you're hitting Modify->Export Scene as .obj from XNAlara. Or it wont export the maps along with the .mtl and .obj. To tell max where to find the textures, open the material editor and click on the diffuse color's bitmap. [link] Then just navigate to where you have the textures.
I looked at the Tina model's textures the alpha maps are there for sure. It might not help but what you have as the top right red box in the screenshot you sent me, Show Material in Viewport, should be set to Show Realistic Material in Viewport. The one with the blue checkered box. Click and hold on that button to switch it. Also try referencing the materials from the model's folder. The .tga pictures instead of the .png's
