This is for users with XNALara and 3DS Max 2012+ and want to render professional looking scenes. You must have a basic knowledge of 3DS Max and completed my previous tutorial:

Here is a blank starter scene to start with. Please, all I ask if you credit me for this tutorial. I did the heavy lifting for you, and if you want other people to enjoy it please just credit me. If not, I will find you.
Please, no mature content of any kind using my tutorial. If I find it, I will remove the download. This is my prerogative, and you have been warned.

Update: I warned you guys about no mature content. Sorry, if you want it now you have to note me. You must have a deviantart account. This isn't optional. While 90% of you followed my simple request, the 10% that didn't spoiled it.

Your final renderings if done correctly should look like these:

If you have questions let me know. I won't bite your head off, I want to help otherwise I wouldn't have made this. Note me with your deviation, after you finish this tutorial. I'd love to see it.

Can't say I don't do things to help the community.
Happy Rendering!

Oh thank you very much! The tutorial was easy to understand but I've one question if it's not so much bother.. I found an option to use ambient occ with the lamps but I'm not sure how to use it correctly, any suggestion please?

Do you have a screenhot? In general at least for mentalray, Ambient Occlusion is handled material-for-material.

Yeah [link] when I set the amb occ to one lamp only, it happen that some parts of the model looks black (1); and when I set the option to more lamps, the render looks so bright that kills textures (2). I tried to low down the multiplier intensity but nothing happen.
That last thing about material for material, I don't understand very well. It's that I have to set the amb occ to the materials and not to lamps?

I'm sorry; I can't seem to find the "Arch and Design" materials. I JUST installed the 2012 version of 3DS max. ^^;

When you click on "Standard" to change the material type, open the Rollout for mentalray, Arch & Design is the top material.

Excellent tut. There is a problem that I have and I was hoping you could help me:

I'm folllowing your procedure to recreate the leather in one of the models that I used in my scene but one of the materials has a texture with an alpha map and the arch&design material doesn' allow me to enable the alpha map:

Here's an image of the problem(look at the model's belt in the left):

What can I do??
