XNALara to 3DS Max [Advanced Scene Effects] by LoneWolf117 XNALara to 3DS Max [Advanced Scene Effects] by LoneWolf117
Download this please.

This is for users with XNALara and 3DS Max 2012+ and want to render professional looking scenes. You must have a basic knowledge of 3DS Max and completed my previous tutorial:

Here is a blank starter scene to start with. Please, all I ask if you credit me for this tutorial. I did the heavy lifting for you, and if you want other people to enjoy it please just credit me. If not, I will find you.
Please, no mature content of any kind using my tutorial. If I find it, I will remove the download. This is my prerogative, and you have been warned.

Update: I warned you guys about no mature content. Sorry, if you want it now you have to note me. You must have a deviantart account. This isn't optional. While 90% of you followed my simple request, the 10% that didn't spoiled it.

Your final renderings if done correctly should look like these:

If you have questions let me know. I won't bite your head off, I want to help otherwise I wouldn't have made this. Note me with your deviation, after you finish this tutorial. I'd love to see it.

Can't say I don't do things to help the community.
Happy Rendering!

Thank you for your wonderful tutorial. I have already finish both two tutorials. However, I want to use your studio scene. Could I have your scene? I can promise that I will not use for mature content.

Hi!

i'm a noob in 3d software. I currently use 3d max but whenever i try to import a model, in this case Kasumi from ninja gaiden 3 in obj format, i can't visualice the textures. And also the model is just wireframe.

Any advice would be gold for me.

Thanks

I just received 3DS max from my college and just started this whole XNA thing. Unfortunately, the 10% made LoneWolf remove the "Starter Scene" download link. Darn, this sucks.

Check to make sure your reflection color in Arch & Design is white, then check to see if your setting are like here: sta.sh/0xz6rqt9v8u Under Rendering->Environment. Feel free to adjust those values. If no reflections show up, check the lights to see if you unchecked "Light Visible When Rendering" That needs to be checked to generate reflections. Let me know if those help.

Thank you very much for answer my question, Kevin!! Unfortunately it didn't work??(sta.sh/0101e0qitbna), then I tried other character just in case, and I got something like this: sta.sh/025nm8wpamp0 It works?? so it might be a problem of the model o something I don't know??...I'm not very good on this stuffs..and that's why I appreciate so much your tutorial, it helps me learn things that I didn't even think I could do... Thank you again!!! =w=

That's strange. Changing the reflection color to white and increasing the exposure values should have fixed it. Move the model closer to the lights?

This thing is so helpful! Thank you! I'm wondering if there's an easy way to tell apart all the maps, etc? Maybe I have a different versions of the models you use here, but the ones I have are not at all clearly marked when imported to Max. There aren't that many in the actual export folder from XNALara (and they're pretty self-explanatory when opened in Photoshop), buuut when I open them in Max, for example, I get about 5 different bump maps called "tex1_bump", 5 more of "tex3_bump", etc etc, same with diffuse maps, no specular maps at all, and several repeats all around with diffuse maps and bump maps that don't have any corresponding numbers that I can match up for the latter parts of the tut...very confusing, not at all clearly marked like the ones marked here! Even the material samples are confusing...most of them look exactly the same, though I can at least use the 'Show Realistic Textures' toggle to tell those apart.

The specular textures are useless when using Arch& Design materials as the specular isn't used except for reflection amount. But that number is calculated for you anyway if you don't use it, and the results are better without using speculars.
As far as the naming goes, can't do anything about that, its whatever the person naming the textures for XNALara label them as. You're welcome to change the name in Max once you know what that texture corresponds to.
Feel free to copy and past materials once you have a finished one. The only reason multiple materials appear more than once is so if you have an area that needs reflections or different settings, you can apply it to just that area without affecting the maps for others. Hence why rendering in an external program leads to better results, that's not possible in XNALara, you have three static lights affecting every map at the same settings.

Especially Lightning, ugh!! It's bad enough if I try to import her solo, but if she's part of a scene with another character involved, only half of her materials and maps even import!! It's bizarre.

Glad you're finding it helpful.

Just make the eye material the same as the clothes then, its more important the clothes be matte than shiny in most cases.

hey, i was just wondering, where i can find the normal map texture? where you will click the button next to bump, i'm kinda lost there, is it just the "normal bump"?

or the one that has the same name of the material?
- if the same name, is it the colored one, or the violet one?

sorry if i'm asking this, i just don't know what it is, XD

Yes, its the normal bump, then click Normal and find the texture that's blue and violet. That's a normal map.

Do you have a screenhot? In general at least for mentalray, Ambient Occlusion is handled material-for-material.

Yeah [link] when I set the amb occ to one lamp only, it happen that some parts of the model looks black (1); and when I set the option to more lamps, the render looks so bright that kills textures (2). I tried to low down the multiplier intensity but nothing happen.
That last thing about material for material, I don't understand very well. It's that I have to set the amb occ to the materials and not to lamps?
